Sunglasses in Oxblood Color. Oxblood is a Trendy Color of the Season.

Oxblood is a new emerging color that suddenly gained popularity this 2012 Fall Season. Oxblood color is rich burgundy baurdaux mix. It is dark, almost brown with a bit of red shade. Oxblood is part of warm color palette which means you can mix in a lot of other colors with it without looking aggressive. Perfect for the fall actually.

Oxblood sunglasses would look perfect on the face because they add softness to the face. They don’t look as agreesive as conventional black and not as boring as conventional brown sunglasses. Oxblood is also perfect for blond and light haired people as it is soft looking color. If you are really looking for something new, oxblood sunglasses are what you need.

Vintage Sunglasses at EyeInform

Vintage sunglasses, or in other words vintage looking sunglasses are at the peak of their popularity. Brand name fashion eyewear has a relatively short history – about 100 years. First movers were Dior, Ray Ban, Carrera, Persol. Brands that joined later, with most recent being Tiffany (just 5 years ago) had to keep up with the well established players and innovate. But vintage sunglasses do have their features. Here are few short tips:

– Tortoise shell color

Tortoise shell historically was invented to accommodate market need to replace horn. Natural horn was used for eyeglasses for over 200 years and as they became globally worn, it was simply inhumane and even unpractical to use animal horn. So the invention of tortoise shell some 8o years ago had a bit impact on sunglasses trends. Lots of old advertisements have sunglasses in tortoise color. Today it just makes them look vintage

– Extreme shapes

In 40-60 there was not that much choice in sunglasses like we have today. Optical store literally had a few dozens styles. Today it’s about a thousand in a store of average size. So, certain shapes particularly stood out: round, cat eye, aviators. Today we associate them with vintage.

– Vintage brand names

50 years ago an eyewear brand name would become popular due to one sunglasses model. Ray Ban sold over 10 million of Wayfarers until today. Persol is still making it’s original Persol PO0649. Carrera has never gave up their sport racing style. Dior is still big on cat eye.

To make it easier for you we created a new category in EyeInform store for Vitange Sunglasses. Have a look at our selection. We hope big brands will be keep making cool vintage sunglasses in 2013.

Fashion Designers Collaborate for The Great Gatsby Film

Costume design in Hollywood has taken a new stand. Nowadays inviting a famous fashion designer to do costume designs has become a trend. The Great Gatsby upcoming and highly anticipating film based on Scott Fitzgerald novel adaptation has not only gathered celebrities actors but designers. Yes, Leonardo DiCaprio will be wearing Prada suits and Carey Mulligan will too!

Miuccia Prada has been keen on retro designs during entire 2012 season making cute little dresses with boa for both Fall and Spring 2012 collections. Perhaps this was a reason film director Baz Luhrmann invited her to do costume design for his film. in fact it was his wife, Catherine Martin, a costume designer for the film who came up with the idea.

Miuccia Prada selected 40 designs from her past collections as a base for the costumes in film.

Another big brand Tiffany & Co. provided the jewelry for the Great Gatsby actors. Tiffany couldn’t be a better fit for the job. Tiffany was just in the midst of high growth in New York when movie plot supposedly took place. Tiffany’s history in American jewelry and silverware had a lot of ready material for the film use.

Why Professional Sport Players Don’t Wear Sunglasses

If you ever tried to play a sport like tennis or beach volleyball on a strong sun you would be wondering how this is even possible without sunglasses. Not only sun is very annoying, it is destructive for the effective play. You may not see half of the court, it is especially hard to serve or volley.

Right now during the US Open only one tennis star is wearing glasses – Australian native, Sam Stosur. Samantha Stosur is wearing Oakley sunglasses. But, given that nobody else is wearing sunglasses, it is safe to assume that she is only wearing them for Oakley endorsement. Why tennis players don’t like to wear sunglasses? Here are a few reasons:

1. Sunglasses may obstruct the view during tennis game

Games like tennis are very dynamic. It is essential to see every side of the court at all times. The ball changes direction every second and if not seen at all times, tennis player may miss a score. Each score could be crucial game changer during tennis game, so if sunglasses are at fault they will not be worn. Sam Stosur has proven everybody wrong my winning US Open last year. Clearly sunglasses were not only no problem for her, they seem to be very helpful. But give that Oakley is her official sponsor I am sure they sat together and created a special pair of sunglasses for her. What she is wearing looks very much like Oakley Radar Path or Oakley Radar Range, but it may be very much reworked pair to fit her needs and face structure. Sam’s cheek bones are very high and Radar sunglasses models are known to be not a best fit for that. They are however great because of the wrap around structure and little frame. No other sunglasses are known to fit a game better than Oakley. But today only one player from entire women and men tennis tour are wearing sunglasses.

2. Sunglasses are not safe for some sports

Yes, unfortunately sunglasses deemed to be not safe for tennis, thus are part of safety standards for many tournaments. In fact many child tennis groups forbid sunglasses of any kind. Safety glasses are allowed because they are made from special material, to withstand a crash. Sunglasses, even Oakleys are not made out of that. Adults like Sam take full responsibility for their own actions, but coaches will not do that for children. So professionals grow up not wearing sunglasses and are so used to go without them that don’t bother in their professional career.

3. Sunglasses don’t look good on cameras

Lately tennis stars are criticised for what they are wearing a lot. Stars like Maria Sharapova changed the reputation of professional tennis game for ever. She is known to change a dress every single tournament and is known to personally design some of her dresses. This is a special deal she got with Nike. While she is always admired for her fashion touch, some players, such as Kim Clijters (wearing Fila) is often part of negative coverage. Fila’s style is very sporty and loud colors combination looks a bit kitch. Looking at Sam Stosur few people would argue that she looks better in sunglasses. Sunglasses look more like a mask on her face. They don’t look good.

Despite above said, I must admit that sunglasses are very popular for professional poker. While it is ironic that poker is an outdoor game with no sunlight present in the room whatsoever, sunglasses are worn for some 40% of players. Reason here is to cover the eyes and emotions behind them away from opponent players. Not everyone can pull a poker face 🙂

Why do you think sunglasses are not popular in professional sports?
